Banking in Phuket, Thailand

There are number of banks in Phuket and all of them operate from 8.30 in the morning to 3.30 in the afternoon. The banks are open from Monday to Friday and are closed on public and bank holidays.

There are ATM machines all over the island and every bank has their own. Cards belonging to the Cirrus or Maestro system are accepted everywhere.

It is possible to exchange currency from almost every bank and there are also mobile currency exchange centers, which are available at major resorts and hotels in Phuket. It is not very wise to do currency exchange in hotels as they do not give a favorable rate.

The banks are mostly located in the town or near Patong Beach. Visa and Master Cards are accepted in most of the places but AMEX is not accepted everywhere.
