What is the qualification required to teach in Thailand?
The ESL teachers in Thailand can easily get a job if they have a degree and an accredited TEFL certificate. Having a teaching experience and degree in English or Education is always helpful but as the demand is very high teachers with a degree in any other subject is also hired.

Which is the right time to apply?
You can apply anytime, whenever you are ready to commit. But until you have your degree in hand and an accredited TEFL certificate to show, do not apply.

How can I be sure about the reputation of my employer?
You can check about your employer in the various websites and discussion forums. You can also check out the website of the school if they have any.

What is the length of contract?
The lengths of ESL job contracts in Thailand usually vary from four months to a year. There are also short job contracts usually for summer camps.

Is the rate of crimes high in Thailand?
In Thailand, the rates of crimes are relatively low. The chance of getting robbed is usually not there is Thailand. There can be petty crimes but to be precise it is more or less a safe place to stay in.

Is there racial discrimination in Thailand?
There is racial discrimination in Thailand as the European and American white skinned people are preferred more.

Is teaching experience mandatory?
English teaching experience is not required to get an ESL job in Thailand. However, it might help you in getting a fat pay check. Although regular schools in Thailand do not ask for experienced teachers but experience is preferred for teachers of language institutes.

Can I expect a cultural shock in Thailand?
Culture and traditions in most of the oriental countries are different. The westerners will have no problem in the cities and tourist spots of Thailand but in other parts you might find certain things which are unusual.

In case I have problems with my housemates or co-workers?
You might find problem as people come to Thailand to teach from various communities and cultures. Thus, adjustment problem might be there. it is thus best to confine yourself and stop interacting with the person.

Can I only teach adults or children?
It is possible to teach only adults or children. If you only want to teach adults do not join any regular school but try out for language institutions and language schools. It would not be always possible to get a tailor made teaching job, however, you can try.

Will the schools pay for my airfare?
Mostly the schools in Thailand do not pay for transportation of the ESL teachers. But sometimes big schools and international schools might give it.

Can I ask for a salary hike directly?
After the completion of the one year duration, the teachers can ask for a salary hike.

So I have to pay taxes?
Yes, you will have to pay taxes and it will be directly deducted from your salary.

How can I send money home?
If you are working with a legal work permit you will not have a problem in sending money home. You can wire it to your home country or send it through western union. Check out the favorable exchange rate before transferring the money.

Is medical or dental examination mandatory before I go?
It is better to have a medical or dental check up before migrating to a foreign country. There is no hard and fast rule about it though.

What is the current salary level in Thailand for ESL teachers now?
The teachers are usually given 25,000 THB to 40,000 THB depending on the qualification and experience.

Will I get my salary in local currency?
Yes, you will be paid in Thai Baht.
